Plan your lake day
For a Michigan-side day, head to Ludington State Park for the walk to the striped Big Sable tower. Take drinking water for the sandy approach. If your group prefers a short visit, spend the morning around the Lake Michigan Beach House and its exhibits instead.

Before you go
Lake Michigan develops surf and dangerous currents. Check the posted beach flag and the local swimming forecast each day, especially before entering the water near a breakwall. The Chicago ice stop and Ludington marina serve separate stretches of coast.
